{"id":5752,"date":"2020-06-22T06:03:39","date_gmt":"2020-06-22T11:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abidingfathers.org\/?p=5752"},"modified":"2020-06-22T06:03:39","modified_gmt":"2020-06-22T11:03:39","slug":"take-a-knee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/af2.musiimes.space\/index.php\/2020\/06\/22\/take-a-knee\/","title":{"rendered":"Take a knee"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Taking a knee<\/h3>\n<p><em>Take a knee<\/em>\u2026can mean a lot of things.\u00a0While\u00a0playing high school\u00a0football, during a tough practice, the coach\u00a0would give us a break by asking us to \u2018take a knee\u2019.\u00a0When a player on either team in a game\u00a0goes down with an injury,\u00a0out of concern and respect,\u00a0the players individually and as a\u00a0group \u2018take a knee\u2019,\u00a0with some actually praying for the wounded warrior.\u00a0Tim Tebow used to\u00a0quietly\u00a0\u2018take a knee\u2019\u00a0before a game\u00a0for a time of prayer.\u00a0A great book has been written by Dr. John\u00a0Tolson\u00a0entitled,<u>\u00a0\u201cTake a Knee: Winning\u00a0Plays for the Game of Life<\/u>\u201d.\u00a0The Foreword is by\u00a0Tony Romo, and a challenge by\u00a0Roger Staubach.\u00a0Worth the investment.\u00a0It was born out of his time as Chaplain for the Dallas Cowboys\u00a0and other teams.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past few years and now most recently,\u00a0the act of taking a knee has been in defiance of the American flag and the National Anthem by certain athletes.\u00a0Just this past week, many of our leading politicians have\u00a0demonstrated this act identifying with\u00a0a\u00a0social issue relating to our Black population and the police.\u00a0It\u00a0seems to\u00a0have\u00a0become\u00a0more divisive than unifying\u00a0for our nation.<\/p>\n<h3>Biblical examples of &#8220;taking a knee&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p>As I have been reflecting on the\u00a0act of \u2018taking a knee\u2019, I was reminded of several times in the Bible relating to this.\u00a0Elijah\u00a0was in a cave\u00a0running from his enemies. He told God that\u00a0he was alone in his service to\u00a0him. The Lord\u00a0gave instructions and told him this.<em><strong>\u00a0\u201cYet I have reserved\u00a0seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not\u00a0bowed to\u00a0Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him\u201d<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(I\u00a0Kings 19.18).<\/p>\n<p>Joseph had interpreted Pharaoh\u2019s dreams and\u00a0was made second only to Pharaoh\u00a0in power.\u00a0God had blessed him mightily\u00a0to accomplish\u00a0the salvation of Israel.<em><strong>\u00a0And he\u00a0(Pharaoh)\u00a0made him ride in his second chariot. And they called out before him,\u00a0\u201cBow\u00a0the knee!\u201d\u00a0Then\u00a0he\u00a0set\u00a0him over all the land of Egypt.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(Gen. 41.43)<\/p>\n<p>As recorded in Ephesians,\u00a0Paul was confronted by the Lord,\u00a0explaining\u00a0the mystery of the gospel and\u00a0the reason for his tribulations, encouraging him to not lose heart.\u00a0Paul\u2019s response was classic.<em><strong>\u00a0\u201cFor this\u00a0reason\u00a0I bow\u00a0my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from\u00a0whom\u00a0the whole family in heaven and earth is named\u201d<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(Vs.\u00a03.14,15). He\u00a0was praying\u00a0for\u00a0and encouraging his followers\u00a0to be\u00a0in humble submission\u00a0to\u00a0the gospel.<\/p>\n<h3>The Day of Days<\/h3>\n<p>\u2018Bowing\u00a0the knee\u2019\u00a0is\u00a0a reverent demonstration of humility, honor or worship.\u00a0Before\u00a0kings and earthly rulers, it was\/is common practice.\u00a0But the ultimate act is yet to come.\u00a0It is being saved for the Day of Days.<em>\u00a0\u201cAnd being found in appearance as a man,\u00a0He humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God\u00a0also has highly exalted\u00a0Him and given\u00a0Him the name which is above every name<\/em>,<em><strong>\u00a0that at\u00a0the name of Jesus every knee should bow,\u00a0of those in heaven,\u00a0and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and\u00a0that\u00a0every tongue should\u00a0confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father\u201d<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(Phil. 2.8-11).<\/p>\n<p>Every person who has ever lived,\u00a0and I\u00a0suppose the angels, will that day,<em><strong>\u00a0take a knee<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0Jesus is the only one who has ever lived that deserves this reverence. What a joyous, and\u00a0for many,\u00a0an\u00a0equally frightening\u00a0day that will be.\u00a0It will include athletes, politicians, theologians,\u00a0missionaries,\u00a0all\u00a0races,\u00a0saved and unsaved. Everybody!!!<\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">My feeling is, if we\u2019re\u00a0gonna\u00a0\u2018take a knee\u2019\u00a0here on earth, let\u2019s do it for a godly purpose and worship of the\u00a0King of kings and Lord of lords.
